~  The overwhelming majority of viewers linked the film because it provides a
seemingly accurate glimpse into the past and a legend that inspires people to fight
for freedom and justice. The film was shot in the style of a historical action film with, many pitched realistic battle scenes, dramatic twists, love, and the breathtaking
scenery of the Carpathian Mountains. An additional storyline of Dovbush's relationship
with the "Besht" adds philosophical and mystical intonations to the film not seen in
previous Ukrainian films.

~  Ukraine’s most-expensive film of all-time, costing around UAH 120 million approximately $4.4 million. The high expenses are related to over 3,000 extras used in the film and the
diligent work needed to create authentic costuming and locations for the film.
~  The plot of the picture unfolds in XVIII century around two brothers – Ivan and Oleksa Dovbushev, whose parents are killed by the then Polish army. Because of the cruelty of the rulers, a group of Hutsuls flee to the mountains and become “Opryshki” or Lvivians – a
primarily Ukrainian peasant insurrectionary movement in Galicia, Transcarpathia, Bukovina for personal rights and freedom, during the period from the 16th to the first half of the 19th century).
As a result, Oleksa becomes the leader of the rebels in the struggle for freedom, and Ivan
becomes a robber.
